The 7.63x25mm Mauser round was designed and introduced in 1896 and was the original round used in the Mauser C96 service pistol. The design of the Mauser round took from the successful semi-automatic pistol round, the 7.65mm Borchardt. The 7.63x25mm Mauser round is very similar in dimensions to the popular 7.62x25mm Tokarev round, however; due to the higher pressure of the 7.62x25mm Tokarev round, it is dangerous to use that round in firearms designed for the older 7.63x25mm Mauser rounds.
