Flat top M4

Post by norfdet » Mon Feb 20, 2006 6:38 pm

I need reccomendations on a good quality inexpensive flat top type M4 rifle. I say inexpensive becasue I want to add a decent holo sight to it and try and keep the total cost around 1,000.00. I think that I can get a DPMS Panther (flat top M4) and either a EOTech or Aimpoint for around 1,000.00 or possibly a bit more. I don't know anything about either EOTech or Aimpoint but I am leaning towards to EOTech (especially since I saw the one in the shop that still worked after the glass was shattered).

Try an Olympic

Olympic Arms might be the way to go, or better yet we are getting a complete lower in and I can order you an M4 upper minus the carry handle, We would have to figure out which way is cheaper.

Sweet, cheaper is better. How much are the EOTech sights?

Now I just have to sell off the guns that I brought in on Sunday to get the money needed to make this happen.

They range from about $320ish to $400 something. Call for the exact prices, I am good but not that good.

In looking for M4 parts I came across a M4 type rifle in 6.8mm. I have heard conflicting reports about this round. Some say that it is the future of SOCOM and the military, others don't seem to know much about it or care for it. If I am in the market for an M4, is it worth it to look at building a rifle in this caliber? How available is the ammo? It appears that the rifle uses the same GI magazines but it requires a follower and spring change.

Looking for some feedback.

6.8

Post by scottc » Sat Feb 25, 2006 9:14 am

The 6.8 is a decent round, though the ability to find it in the stores is a wee bit hard at this time. Not sure if the military is going to switch anytime soon. It would require a massive effort to rebarrel every M16 variant out there. Not sure this is going to happen in a war. As for a new rifle, there was a lot of talk in the beginning of 2005, but that is all it was, talk.

I ordered a pentagon light today to mount to the tactical rail (whenever I get the rifle). It was a decent price at 180.00, it was about 80.00 cheaper than most everywhere else on the internet.

Okay, looks like at least three on consignment sold so you've got about $700 to spend so far.

Ok, so what does that get me in the flat-top M4 market? I need a base rifle price so I know how much or less I have to spend or add to it. I like the Olympic Arms base grade flat top's preferably with the barrel without the step in it for the M203 but if that is the way that they come then so be it. I am anxious to get this thing started. I will even take one that is in stock provided that I can get a credit reduction for not wanting the carry handle.

You can get the straight barrel without the step in it. You are looking right in the $700 price range. But you never know when a M203 will come in handy. We were thinking about getting a couple in the store, well a few of us were considering buying one. But we'd have to fork out two tax stamps and I don't want to do that.

I just want the M4 for now. Can you give me a definite price and do you have them in stock?

Is that with or without a carry handle?
