type 38 arisaka

Post by schmuck » Fri Nov 24, 2006 12:40 am

my granfather brought home a type 38 from ww2 and it has been in the family for years, well hurricane katrina kinda ruined it, and im going to restore it for my grandma for christmas along with the info on the gun and the story of my grandpas time with the marines in the pacific all done on parchment paper, framed as a comemeration to my grandpa.

anyway i was wondering if anyone can tell me how to steam a stock to get the dents out, my 2 uncles were hard on this rifle when they were growing up

I don't think we are going to get any help here S. I've been looking all over the net and if I find anything I will post it.

I know it can be done, if you get any info on this please post it here or send me an IM.

Thanks, Bob

Hey schmuck

Here is the only thing I've been able to come up with so far, I will keep looking.

Gun stock refinishing tips

http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/a/aastockrefinish.htm

Talks about ironing to take out dents and raise the wood grain.

It might work, Bob

Glad I was able to help you out schmuck.

I'm a little scared to try it on my rifle, I don't want to ruin the rest of the finish.

You have a good one, Bob
