I am looking at buying this caliber hand gun in an fn.It is slightly larger than a .223 with little recoil--I am told. Any knowledge of ballistics and or comparison to .223 /.22/.17 or what ever would be helpful--thank you.

Hi, I'm not the ballistics expert :) but I do know that we've sold quite a few of the FN 5 7 pistols and everyone seems to be happy with them. The ammo is fairly easy to get and we should have a couple of the pistols and some of the ammo in stock. Marie

The bullet is .223 and the ballistics put it slightly lower than a 221 fireball.
The 221 was introduced for the Rem XP100 pistol. It should be good on vermin up to Coyote size. The recoil is nil making it easy to shoot and now that the draconian AWB is history you can utilize tweny round mags.

Apparently there was also some controversy about the 5.7 round being armor piercing. I just read in the new Firearms Business that the ATF has declared that it is NOT. That might be why the ammo has been in such short supply lately. Maybe now we'll be able to get more in. Just sold my last pistol and didn't have any ammo to go with it.
