Soldiers in Alaska forbidden to CCW

I found this post on Packing.org and it sent shivers down my spine. Wanted to know what you all thought of this:

quote:
DOD beginning to ban concealed carry by soldiers off post?

This is scary: http://www.usarak.army.mil/main

"U.S. ARMY ALASKA — Despite an Alaska law allowing gun owners to carry concealed weapons, U.S. Army Alaska policy still reigns supreme on forts Richardson and Wainwright. Two policy letters signed this week reinforce and clarify the command’s guidelines on privately owned weapons, including the prohibition against USARAK Soldiers carrying concealed weapons." This policy became effective on 21 FEB 06. See also http://www.usarak.army.mil/AlaskaPost/Mar10Story2.asp & http://www.usarak.army.mil/policies/PUB ... T%2020.pdf

The policy bans active duty soldiers assigned to US Army Alaska from carrying concealed (legally under Alaska law) OFF POST in any "public place," which is defined broadly to include "highways." Army employed civilians, and military family members are not included.

How about that - join the US Army and make sure you have a wife who can carry to protect your family while traveling?

The policy does not restrict open carry - so that remains an option for now.

This policy by Major General Charles H. Jacoby needs to be attacked on all fronts right now before this disease spreads.

Does anyone have access to General Jacoby's email address so we can send him some thoughts??

Has any soldier or better yet, soldier's family member made a complaint to Congress on this? Representative Don Young's web site is at http://donyoung.house.gov and he can be contacted thru that web site.

I cannot fathom USARAK is banning concealed carry for soldiers - especially those traveling on deserted Alaska highways. Insane.

Here is a snapshot of the bases homepage.
