Developed during World War II, the 7.92x33mm Kurz round was developed by Nazi Germany. Where the Kurt stands for Short, the 7.92x33mm Kurz ammo cartridge is a rimless bottlenecked rifle round. Also referred to as 7.9mm Kurz or 7.9 Kurz, the German round was specifically developed for use in the automatic carbine assault rifle round. To be a compromise between the 7.92x57mm rifle round and the 9mm Parabellum pistol round, the 7.92x33mm Kurz round is often referred to as an intermediate cartridge.
