First marketed in 1895, the .30-30 Winchester round was designed for the Winchester Model 1894 lever-action rifle. As America’s first smokeless powder designed small-bore sporting rifle, the .30-30 is also referred to as the .30 Winchester Center Fire or .30 WCF. When the round was chambered in the Marlin Model 1893 rifle, the round was designated as the .30-30 or .30-30 Smokeless, where the -30 represents a standard load of 30 grains of the smokeless power.
